Stephen Knights

Successful local dance artist Stephen Knights has been working professionally throughout Norfolk and East Anglia in a career that spans over 20 years.

Born locally and with limited opportunities on his doorstep, Stephen literally taught himself to dance in the confides of his bedroom seeking inspiration from Michael and Janet Jackson, Madonna and Paula Abdul.

At 16 Stephen decided to pursue his passion for dance and completed a B-Tec National Diploma in the Performing Arts at the College of West Anglia. It was a year later, having successfully auditioned at Body Works, Middlesex University and The Laban Centre, that Stephen finally settled on the Northern School of Contemporary Dance based in Leeds.

Having completed his training he went straight on to teach for Norfolk Dance, the development organisation for dance in the county. Stephen worked extensively throughout the area providing workshops and projects for local High Schools and with various community groups in more rural locations throughout Norfolk.

As well as teaching regularly weekly classes for Norfolk Dance at The Garage, Stephen has worked with a wide cross section of the public including classes for local youth theatre companies, private dance schools, Stage Coach, further education colleges and schools that specialise in working with adults with learning disabilities.

Although Stephen's work is primarily in teaching, he is also a talented dance performer and accomplished choreographer. He has performed in countless fashion shows, trade shows and musicals throughout Norfolk, most of which he has choreographed himself. Musical theatre credits include Grease, Godspell, The Wizz, The Boyfriend and Kiss Me Kate.

In addition to this Stephen has been successfully running his own production company for the past 15 years, producing and choreographing work to promote local businesses and raise money for charity.

2011 marks the start of the next exciting chapter in Stephens long and varied career with the launch of his own dance school. With such an abundance of valuable teaching experience to his name, Stephen is now ready to seize a brand new opportunity and offer classes independently through Knightshift Dance Company.
